Layette is a single mother of four children who has lived in the Acholi Quarters for more than ten years. As the war in Northern Uganda left her husband dead, with no living relatives, she fled to Kampala to work in the stone Quarry in exchange for shelter. Unfortunately, the meager income forced her ten-year old daughter into the same job, just to ensure that the family could have one meal per day. Layette has four children: Christin, Evelyn, Joanita, and Ojoko, a delightful young boy who is physically handicapped.
“My dream is to start my own business so that my children can have the same opportunity as other Ugandans to go to school.”
