During high school, Romone was selected as one of the first students in Kevin Garnett’s 4XL – For Excellence in Leadership – business program for minorities.  As part of the program, he was invited to attend the 2002 NBA All-Stars with Garnett to do a three-day business immersion with executives from the National Basketball Association and was featured in a special edition of NBA Inside Stuff.  He is now an alumni member of 4XL’s parent organization for college business minorities, Management Leadership 4 Tomorrow (MLT).  Through this career placement program, he landed an internship in the summer of 2006 with ESPN in New York City, where he worked as an accounting intern in the Mobile ESPN Controller’s Department.

In 2008, Romone held a bowling fundraiser for SSPP to help create awareness and raise funds.  Romone also serves as the alumni director of Minneapolis Next, a non-profit organization to help low-income students with educational and extracurricular needs.  In early 2010, Romone started his own scholarship program, the “Romone F. Penny Award”, to promote self-development and help highly committed and motivated college students with educational related resources.
